After spending the weekend talking with his wife, Brenda,
and associates, listening to their concerns and recommendations,
Valley County Clerk Lee Heinrich announced last week that
he will be a candidate for Idaho's Legislative District
8 Senate Seat in the 2006 election.
"I announce my candidacy for Senate. After listening for
two days to family and associates and doing a lot of soul
searching, I am convinced more than ever the greatest contribution
I can make at this time is to serve in the Peoples Legislature
in and for the State of Idaho. My commitment is to the
good folks who live in Legislative District 8. I look forward
to a good campaign focused on the challenges and opportunities
facing our State and Legislative District 8," Heinrich
said.
Legislative District 8 encompasses Valley, Idaho, Clearwater
and Lewis County. The district is one of the largest in
the State of Idaho. Skip Brandt is the current senator
from the district who sought the seat U.S. Rep.
C.L. (Butch) Otter, R-Idaho, will vacate in 2006 to run
for governor.
The district is mainly rural forested counties that need
community, and agency sustainability, healthy productive
forests, appropriate school funding, and that the public
lands remain public and accessible, Heinrich said.
"I make this decision out of my commitment to public service
and recognition of the critical needs of our state at this
time." Heinrich continued, "I must say with great
humility that I appreciate the confidence that Valley County
has placed in me over the last 16 years, while I served
as Valley County Clerk. I am ready and eager to take on
the challenges ahead. I want to assure the people of Legislative
District 8 that I will continue to work tirelessly on their
behalf. I ask for the opportunity to continue my service
as your next State Senator from Legislative District 8."
